Belview United Methodist Church

 Backpack Program

(In cooperation with Belview Elementary and Christiansburg Middle Schools)

Our Vision: a Belview Community without hunger.

Our Goal: provide students that participate in the free or reduced cost lunch program at Belview Elementary and Christiansburg Middle Schools with food for the weekends.

About the program: Our backpack program will provide weekend food for children. It will also help parents stretch their food budget by providing some snacks and food for their children. Students that participate in the School’s free or reduced-cost lunch program are eligible to participate. Parents or guardians must agree for their children to participate and must complete the permission form that is attached.

Using backpacks or other suitable carriers, the children can easily carry nonperishable, child friendly and easily consumed foods home for themselves and their siblings. The backpacks will be packed during the week and delivered to the school on Thursday evening or Friday morning. The backpacks will be distributed, discretely, every Friday by school staff or volunteers.

Examples of items that will be placed in the packs include: (the packs will include items for 3 dinners, 2 lunches, 3 snacks, 1 drink)
